Indoor air quality in the workplace can be affected not only by external air conditions but also by pollutants created in the workplace itself. Poorly maintained air conditioning and ventilation systems can harbour micro-organisms and respirable particulates and deliver contaminated air to all areas within a building.

Dust mite allergens, pollen, fungal spores and micro-organsisms are just a few of the invisible sources that produce health risks for people working in a building. Studies indicate that these combined contaminants attribute to the growing number of absenteeism and reduced productivity in the workplace today.

The law recognises the importance of air quality through the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. In addition, there are enforceable Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH).

The Codes of Practice approved by the Health and Safety Commission provide guidance to employers on how they should comply with these Regulations.

These regulations lay a clear duty on employers to measure, monitor and manage workplace air quality. In particular the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations Approved Code of Practice states:

“Mechanical ventilation systems (including air conditioning systems) should be regularly and properly cleaned, tested and maintained to ensure that they are kept clean and free from anything that can contaminate the air.”

PLANNED PREVENTATIVE &
EMERGENCY PROJECTS

Amphibia are experienced in the cleaning and disinfection of air systems in buildings. We provide a range of cleaning programmes specially formulated to comply with NADCA, HVCA and CIBSE guidelines.

Once the system has been cleaned it is carefully disinfected using a specially approved food grade biocide. A detailed report is then provided for our client detailing the pre and post system condition coupled with photographic evidence and
certification.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Kitchen extract air systems become contaminated very quickly and present a serious fire risk if preventative measures are not taken to control the build up of flammable substances.

In fact, if your kitchen extract system caught fire, and you were unable to prove that it was cleaned recently your Insurance liability may be affected.

Amphibia can provide a site specific deep clean programme to ensure grease levels and fire risks are controlled. A cleaning certificate is provided on completion.
